Glossary of Sciatica Terms A-I

Sciatica information often contains a series of similar topic-focused words throughout. Here is a smapling of some of the more popular words that appear.


Absenteeism: Being absent from work and / or other related responsibilities often due to pain or other related health issues.

Analysis: The processing of relevant data, research and other materials used in a thorough study of the subject so that people may gain better understanding of the complicated underlying issues at work.

Bone: The content that makes up the skeletal system of a body, made up of mainly calcium carbonate plus calcium phosphate. Bones are known storage centers for calcium, important as well in the blood.

Disc: Generally used with the larger terminology intervertebral disc, this is special tissue separating the spinal column bones.

Exercises: Those relating to sciatica help would be referred to as sciatica exercises.

Hernia / Harniation: When tissue protrudes through an opening in an abnormal manner; for example, with an intervertebral disk may protrude and even entrench upon a nerve root.

Inflammation: A type of swelling, redness, pain and / or warmth associated with an infection, injury or other irritation in the body.


Injury: a scientific hurt to the body, either accidental or intentional.

Intervention: The interfering or intervening to help with the outcome. This is often being mentioned withsciatica treatments in this context.
